Flores is a quaint colonial town with cobblestone streets and traditional Spanish architecture. Its proximity to the ruins of Mayan Tikal makes it the perfect place from which to explore the region.

Situated on an island in the middle of Lake Peten Itza, the town is often referred to as “the Venice of Central America” because many of its buildings are located at the water’s edge.

Visitors can tour the lake on small craft with a guide that educates guests as to the history of the area. It’s also possible to rent canoes and kayaks and explore the lake on your own. Don’t miss the Petencito Zoo and the nearby ARCAS animal rehab center.
