Livingston, Guatemala
The only city in Guatemala with a decidedly English name, Livingston was for decades Guatemala's main port on the Caribbean Sea. The town was named after an American jurist and politician, Edward Livingston, who was responsible for writing the Livingston Codes, used as the basis for the laws of the government of the United Provinces of Central America in the early 19th century.
Livingston is home to the Garifuna people, who have their own language and culture, and the town is often compared to Jamaica. Accessible only by boat, it's a great place to relax in the sun and have fun (something the Garifuna people know how to do) though it's a bit rough around the edges and far from a luxury resort.
